Extra Mile Charity
Welcome
The Extra Mile Charity was started in 2005 when I realised I had amazing friends who all wanted to go that extra mile to help people. After having looked at all the various charities and the type of work that they do, we decided that we want to “do” things for charity – so the one promise of the Extra Mile Charity is physically doing that extra thing – such as running a half marathon, or doing a mass cook up, or rowing the Dusi….maybe even cycling the 94.7 Challenge – the options are open as long as they are fun, we do it in good spirit and charity scores! This desire “to do” has led to some interesting adventures, and not a small amount of bizarre bets…which we always take of course!

Here is the next big event!
Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge
Jo’burg’s safest race is celebrating it’s 12th birthday and the boys in pink will be there in full force to have fun and most importantly, to also help Jo’burg’s kids. This year we will be highlighting MaAfrika Tikkun and will be riding with 7 kids from Diepsloot Community Centre. Anton and myself will be doing ourselves in again by only getting on the bike the day of the actual race…..so no cycle training beforehand….and yes, the tutu’s will be there…anyone keen to join us in a tutu, please let us know…”
Why we do this

We do these crazy adventures because we care enough about the smaller charities that does not get the masive support some of the bigger ones get. I am not taking away from the need to get involved with the larger charities, but we believe that we should try and look after the little guy as well...we also get to make a really significant difference to these charities with our support. A very important past is also sustainability and progress, give a man fish and he eats for one day, but teach him how to fish and he eats every day...

How do you support us?

Well, you first have to REGISTER, and then pledge for a cyclist, or group of cyclists in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge. You will receive an e-mail confirming your pledge and giving more details. From there you can be super helpfull and forward this website to as many of your friends as possible!

EMC joins forces with MaAfrica Tikkun

Extra Mile Charity has joined forces with MaAfrica Tikkun, an amazing charity that devotes itself to sustainable social development in the townships of South Africa. MaAfrica builds Community Centres and uses these Centres as focal points to positively uplift people's lifes and to enrich and educate the next generation. The Community Centres are driven to be self-sustainable over a short period of time and is of such a great value that the chief patron is our own Nelson Mandela, a man we all respect tremendously.

We are starting off slowly and some members will be doing the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge with some of the kids from Diepsloot to help raise awareness and funds for the initiative. Please go look at their website (www.maafricatikkun.org.za) for more details and support the riders for this great ride.

What do you get?

Zills, nada, zero....except for a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach that you have made a difference in another persons' life. But you will also get exposure on the website....but I don’t guarantee anything as I want people to do this because they want to make a difference in a small child’s life, not because of the mileage they can get from it. We also invite everyone who pledges to join us at Diepsloot a few days after the event to see where your money goes, and to experience the unique thrill of changing someone's live.
